Féministe, écologiste, homme du monde, homme de tête, de corps et de cœur, l’écrivain libanais Khalil Gibran est un artiste total. Quatre-vingt-dix ans après sa mort, sa parole résonne toujours en raison de sa profondeur et de son universalité. Gibran parle de la lumière et des ténèbres. LISTENING FOR HOPE IN THE ARCHIVE – A SPOKENWEB LISTENING PRACTICE
Working with SpokenWeb’s digital archives of literary sound recordings, this interactive session will introduce ideas and methods of listening, and will lead participants in listening to and discussion of a selection of archival recordings. Based on this year’s festival theme, the selected clips will engage with the question of how we can listen to and learn from sounds of hope in archives.

Deanna Fong and Mathieu Aubin interview poet Daphne Marlatt and artist Carole Itter about their oral historical work in Opening Doors: Vancouver’s East End, published in 1979. The pre-recorded interview discusses the pair’s recollections of conducting interviews, their experience of revisiting that work today, and the neighbourhood’s transformation since the book’s publication.
