PETER WOHLLEBEN RECEIVES THE 2025 PLANET LITERATURE PRIZE
The world-renowned forester and internationally bestselling, award-winning author of nature books Peter Wohlleben (The Hidden Life of Trees, The Secret Wisdom of Nature, The Power of Trees: How Ancient Forests Can Save Us if We Let Them, to name just a few) receives the Blue Metropolis Planet Literature Prize for his body of work. This prize is awarded to a writer who shows the beauty of the living world, demonstrates its fragility and, in so doing, promotes greater ecological awareness, while affirming the power of literature in the face of reality.

STEPHEN GRAHAM JONES RECEIVES THE 2025 BLUE METROPOLIS FIRST PEOPLES PRIZE – INTERNATIONAL EDITION
The American author Stephen Graham Jones is awarded the Blue Metropolis 2025 First Peoples Prize – International Edition for his body of work, which includes some thirty titles, including The Only Good Indians, My Heart is a Chainsaw, Earthdivers, and I Was a Teenage Slasher, to name just a few. His work, mainly horror novels, has won numerous awards (the Texas Institute of Letters Award for Fiction, the Los Angeles Times Ray Bradbury Prize, the Mark Twain American Voice in Literature Award, the August Derleth British Fantasy Award for Best Horror Novel, the Bram Stoker Awards, the Shirley Jackson Awards, among others). The Blue Metropolis First People Prize – International Edition is awarded to a very significant indigenous writer outside Canada for the high quality of his work.

THE GABRIEL SAFDIE EVENT JERUSALEM OF THE MIND – THE GROUNDWORK FOR THE DAY AFTER

THE ELEANOR WACHTEL SERIES: IN CONVERSATION WITH CLAIRE MESSUD
Claire Messud’s latest novel was named one of the 10 Best Books of the Year by the Washington Post. Claire Messud was born in Greenwich, Connecticut. Her mother was Canadian and her father French Algerian. In fact, his family settled in Algeria around 1850. A hundred years later, they relocated to France and other parts of the world. Claire herself spent part of her childhood in Australia, as well as Canada and the U.S. She’s published many widely-praised novels, including her bestseller, The Emperor’s Children. Her most recent book, This Strange Eventful History, draws on her own family’s story, providing the intimacy of interiority set against social and political upheaval spanning seven decades, from 1940 to 2010. It’s been described as « a tour de force », « brilliant and heart-breaking », and Messud as « one of contemporary literature’s best. »

CONVERSATION AVEC L’AUTEUR DE POLARS ITALIEN DAVIDE LONGO
Poser sur la réalité un regard en biais, c’est tout le talent du duo d’enquêteurs Bramard-Arcadipane, créé par le grand auteur italien de polars Davide Longo. UP AND DOWN THE FAST RED ROAD
Three writers from three peoples and three territories converged in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal for the first time in a powerful exchange about literary heritage and the speech of the land. From the Ñamkulawen Mapuche community in the Patagonia, poet Liliana Ancalao is a learner of her maternal language, Mapuzungun; she joined Blackfeet (Pikunis) Native American novelist Stephen Graham Jones and Anishinaabe (Peguis First Nation) scholar Niigaan Sinclair in a meaningful conversation about language and literature across territories and traditions.

FOREST PROTECTION AND INDIGENOUS VISION: CONVERGING? A CONVERSATION BETWEEN PETER WOHLLEBEN AND NIIGAAN SINCLAIR
In Canada, Anishinabe author, journalist and University of Manitoba professor Niigaan Sinclair is deeply involved in issues relating to the Aboriginal way of life and culture. His latest book, Winipêk: Visions of Canada from an Indigenous Centre, won the Governor General’s Award for non-fiction. Author and forest ranger Peter Wohlleben is not only the author of the international bestseller The Secret Life of Trees. In Germany where he leaves, he runs a sustainable forest academy and campaigns for the conservation of forests and trees in Germany and around the world. Can allochthonous and autochthonous visions of the forest and more generally of nature converge? And how? And will the climate crisis still have the last word?

LES BLUE MET TALKS 2025
Le Festival Metropolis bleu a fait dialoguer le temps, l’arbre et la littérature pour sa 27e édition, et a proposé une exploration de la patience, de la transformation et du fragile équilibre entre nature, culture et humanité. L’arbre, témoin silencieux des siècles, incarne à la fois la patience du temps et la mémoire du monde. « Les arbres sont eux-mêmes leur langage, c’est leur forme qui parle, c’est leur forme tout entière qui est leur sens », écrit Alexis Jenni, nous invitant ainsi à réfléchir à notre propre rapport au temps, à la littérature et à l’environnement.
Le temps est le matériau de prédilection de la littérature. L’arbre met du temps à croître. Il devient parfois livre imprimé. Qu’apporte la Page, c’est-à-dire la littérature, au Temps et à l’Arbre ?
À Montréal, le vendredi 25 avril 2025, lors de la cérémonie d’ouverture, 11 invités ont exploré cette thématique en partageant leurs visions de l’arbre, du temps et de la page. Revivez leurs interventions sur scène.

En prévision de sa participation au Festival Metropolis Bleu 2025, France Daigle revient sur son œuvre et la signification du prix Violet.
Figure majeure de la littérature acadienne, elle a publié plus d’une dizaine d’ouvrages, dont Sans jamais parler du vent, Pas pire et Pour sûr, lauréat du Prix littéraire du Gouverneur Général. Elle a également écrit pour le théâtre et signé une chronique dans L’Acadie nouvelle. Elle vit à Caraquet.

Ahead of his participation in the 2025 Blue Metropolis International Literary Festival, Simon Sebag Montefiore reflects on his work and the significance of receiving the Blue Metropolis First Peoples Word to Change Prize.
A bestselling author and historian, Montefiore’s works, published in forty-eight languages, include Catherine the Great and Potemkin, Stalin: The Court of the Red Tsar, Young Stalin, Jerusalem: The Biography, and The Romanovs: 1613–1918. His books have won major international awards, including the Costa Biography Award and The Times History Book of the Year.

Découvrez BOLD & CREATIVE, une initiative audacieuse et innovante de Metropolis bleu, célébrant la créativité des auteurs et artistes anglophones du Québec. Ce projet, au croisement de la littérature et de la société, propose une programmation dynamique incluant balados, ateliers, concours, soirées thématiques et vitrines professionnelles. Pensé pour inspirer, mobiliser et mettre en valeur les voix locales, il les relie à des perspectives internationales dans un cadre multilingue unique.
RACONTE-MOI LE BONHEUR
La série « Raconte-moi le bonheur… » explore, par la littérature et en faisant appel à diverses sensibilités littéraires, un thème fondamental et commun à tous les êtres humains, au-delà de la couleur de la peau, des origines, de la langue, de la religion ou des croyances : la quête du bonheur.
Quinze voix littéraires. Quinze visions très subjectives du bonheur.
Des conversations et des moments de grâce inattendus, dès lors que la réalité se donne à voir à travers le regard d’autrui, différent, heureusement différent.
La série «Raconte-moi le bonheur», c’est en somme une manière de vivre. Et peut-être de vivre plus heureux, qui sait ?
PLANÈTE, MON AMOUR…
Planète, mon amour… a offert à des étudiants âgés de 18 à 30 ans, de l’UQAM, de l’Université de Montréal, des universités Concordia et McGill ainsi que des institutions collégiales l’opportunité de rédiger des récits mêlant écologie et romance, tout en abordant les enjeux climatiques à travers la fiction. Ce concours a permis de mettre en lumière de jeunes talents littéraires engagés.

NOS BALADOS POUR LA JEUNESSE
LE CLUB DES JEUNES ACIÉRISTES
L’acier est partout autour de nous : dans les immeubles, les ponts, les outils, les véhicules… Il façonne notre quotidien et notre monde. Mais derrière ces objets se cachent des histoires fascinantes qui allient science, créativité et innovation.
Le club des jeunes aciéristes ouvre une porte vers cet univers fascinant, en explorant les mille et une façons dont l’acier façonne nos vies et inspire la créativité.
DANS MON GARAGE, J’AI TROUVÉ…
Une voiture, des vélos, l’établi de papa, une brouette, un râteau, la poussette de bébé de ma petite sœur, le vieil équipement de ski de mon frère… Un garage, c’est comme un débarras ? Mais non, c’est un coffre au trésor ! On y trouve de tout : mille et un objets qui rendent notre vie quotidienne plus facile et plus agréable et, bien souvent, les souvenirs qui vont avec.
« Dans mon garage, j’ai trouvé… » est une invitation à plonger dans l’imaginaire tout en favorisant un français de qualité et la découverte de métiers liés aux objets trouvés dans un garage, du jardinage à la mécanique en passant par la menuiserie.
SIMPLEMENT MAGNIFIQUE!
La littérature jeunesse ne connaît pas de frontières régionales ! Partout au Québec, des auteurs vivent, écrivent et illustrent des œuvres que les jeunes dévorent. Leur imaginaire se nourrit de la beauté des paysages qui les entourent et souvent trouvent un écho dans leurs romans ou leurs albums.
«Simplement magnifique !» est un projet qui met en lumière les plus beaux coins du Québec, la richesse de la littérature jeunesse et l’imaginaire des jeunes.
QUEBEC ROOTS
Le monde de demain sera porté par les jeunes d’aujourd’hui. Avec leurs talents, leur créativité et leurs motivations, ceux-ci façonneront notre société pour le mieux.
Le programme éducatif Quebec Roots témoigne de la capacité des jeunes élèves anglophones à nous surprendre, à nous émouvoir et à nous faire réfléchir. À l’aide de l’écriture et de la photo, ces jeunes posent sur le monde qui les entoure un regard témoin de leur âge, empreint d’espoir et de lucidité.

MOI… PODCAST STAR !
Le programme éducatif « Moi, podcast star ! » permet à des élèves de six écoles québécoises de créer des balados bilingues, alliant écriture, art dramatique et nouvelles technologies. Inspirés par des histoires d’auteurs, les jeunes enrichiront ces récits avec leurs propres idées. Les enregistrements ont été réalisés sous la direction de notre équipe et montés professionnellement pour produire des balados de qualité. Vingt balados sont ainsi diffusés en ligne, offrant aux jeunes créateurs l’opportunité de partager leur travail avec un large public.
