Joel Silverstein is a native Montrealer who is a graduate of Dawson College and McGill University. He has been teaching photography at Dawson College for the past 10 years. While engaging in commercial work, his personal work has focused on people, places and the things we do. Motivating his work is a visual and intellectual curiosity that he seeks to share. In an expanded role as a teacher, Joel volunteered for 2 years with Leave Out Violence, a community organization dedicated to helping at-risk adolescents better understand their world through photography, video production and writing. Having group book publication, newspaper and exhibitions to his credit, his photographs are held in several private collections.
