Né en 1960, Daniel Mendelsohn est critique littéraire et écrivain : Les disparus a connu un très grand succès, notamment en France où il a reçu le prix Médicis en 2007 et a été élu meilleur livre de l’année par le magazine Lire. L’étreinte fugitive est le premier volet d’un tryptique dont Les disparus forme le panneau central; quant au troisième volet, l’auteur en débutera l’écriture l’an prochain, à Paris.
Daniel Mendelsohn’s essays and reviews appear regularly in numerous publications, including The New Yorker and The New York Review of Books. His previous books include the memoir The Elusive Embrace and the international bestseller The Lost: A Search for Six of Six Million, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Prix Médicis, and many other honors. His new translation, with commentary, of the complete works of Constantine Cavafy was published in March 2009.
